My 2015 A to Z Challenge Theme is Quotes & Lines from Literature. Each day I will be posting a favorite quote or a few lines from well known short stories, poems or novels, with the letter of the first name as the A to Z. I’ll have a short write up with each quote, but each quote can also serve as a writing prompt for readers or myself.  I may write a poem or flash fiction based on that quote, or just throw it out there as inspiration. Hopefully you’ll join me in this adventure! I’ll try to include some of my favorite blog finds as I move through the challenge as well.


 

This is one of my favorite quotes. I can’t give where I originally sourced it, but since I found it on a search for quotes on kindness years ago, it has been a staple in my collection of quotes. 

On the theme of kindness, I would like to say thank you for the kind comments left as people are stopping by from the A to Z and also from regular readers as well. It is always greatly appreciated. 😀

As a bonus I am tossing out a few extra quotes on kindness. Then I will see you tomorrow for “I”.

Today’s quote is one of my favorites. There are so many great quotes on kindness (at least one other will be mixed into my A to Z), but this one breaks it down so simply. 

It is always possible to be kind, and the world needs more kindness. 

I am keeping this post short and sweet since it’s a busy weekend with family for the Easter holiday.  Whatever you believe, whatever you are celebrating this weekend, I wish you and yours a lovely weekend.

Poem a Day – Day 25 – Prompt is Magic

Today’s OctPoWriMo prompt was a fun one for me.  Magic. 🙂

I enjoy books and movies that have magic.  I like imagining having extra powers or special abilities.  I like thinking about magical worlds and creatures.  It’s captivating to imagine a world beyond our own.

But when I did my freewriting about magic, I thought of something I saw on Pinterest once – a quote about kindness.  Kindness is magic.  I love that.  Below is a favorite quote on kindness and below that my poem inspired by the idea that kindness is magic.

Three things in human life are important.

The first is to be kind.

The second is to be kind.

And the third is to be kind.

A Simple Magic

The day had been too long

the pressures piled up

and stress threatened to

spill over and out

Another task completed

and another call comes in

he doesn’t think he’ll be able

to take on anything else.

But the call was not

another task,

it was a thank you-

a compliment saying

job well done.

It made him smile

and soothed his rattled nerves

to know that maybe he

wasn’t completely unappreciated.

This little moment may not

change the world or

save the day

but every simple kindness

has the power to change

in ways we may never know.

We all have this magic inside us:

A compliment, a thank you,

a touch, a moment of our time.

All may seem like nothing

but could mean the world

to someone who needs it.

So don’t ever hesitate

to spread kindness

whenever you can.

We can never have enough 

of this special magic.
